Gift Genealogical Research/Coaching Services

Give the gift of family history with our genealogical research and coaching services. Each project is unique, and the timeline and pricing depend on factors such as the depth of research, how far back the focus extends, the availability of information, access to records, and whether DNA analysis is included.

Our services are priced at USD 90 per hour. You can purchase a gift card for an amount that covers the start of a project or a larger portion of a more in-depth search. Gift cards are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

As every project is unique, we start by assessing the specific research goals to provide a tailored estimate of time and cost. This is especially true for the coaching services and this is the research service process we follow:

Our Research Process

  1. Initial Consultation: We discuss your family history goals, assess available information, and clarify the focus of your research.
  2. Project Agreement: We provide a written contract outlining the scope, timeline, and estimated costs.
  3. Research Phase: We conduct research through digital and physical archives, and integrate DNA results when needed.
  4. Ongoing Updates: You will be kept informed of progress and discoveries.
  5. Final Report: We deliver a detailed report with findings, evidence, sources, and recommendations for further exploration.

General Ideas Regarding the Time a Project May Take

When purchasing a gift card for our services, the number of hours you choose will depend on the depth of research and the specific goals of the recipient.  Here are some general guidelines to how much time a project could take.

  • 2-3 generations back: If the focus is on immediate ancestors, such as regarding a parent or grandparent, 5–10 hours of research of historical records may be sufficient for a solid foundation.
  • 4-5 generations back: For those interested in exploring a broader family tree, such as a great-grandparent and great-great-grandparent, consider 15–20 hours of research into historical records.
  • 6-7 generations back: If the research is more extensive, covering multiple generations or integrating DNA analysis, 30+ hours would be a good starting point.

Why Estimating Time and Costs Is Challenging

Factors influencing the project include:

  • Research Depth: Tracing recent generations is generally quicker, while going further back in time requires more effort.
  • Information Availability: Readily available records usually speed up research, while missing or incomplete records can slow progress.
  • Record Access: Some records are only available in physical archives, which adds time required.
  • DNA Analysis: If DNA testing is included, it adds both time and cost for analysis and interpretation.
